Volatile Markets

I found this good article on strategies for volatile markets.  In light of the market's performance so far this month and especially today, I believe it's rather pertinent.

Tax Documents: What to Shred, and What to Keep

I know that tax season is behind us and thankfully so! However, I came across this article about which documents should be kept and for how long and which ones should be shredded. I wrote a blog a few years ago on this subject, but I thought would be a good time to revisit the topic.

Updating Estate Planning Documents

This past week I finally got around to having our Wills and Durable Powers of Attorney (DPOA) for health and financial reviewed by an estate planning attorney. I knew it had been some time since they were written, but I was surprised to see they had been written in 2003. As I have done so many times in the past, I put the "pro" in procrastination!

Dinner Conversation

Christine and I recently celebrated our 19th wedding anniversary. We went out for dinner to celebrate, nothing too fancy, but a nice place with an amazing selection of beers. We got a great table outside on the patio overlooking downtown Granville. It was a beautiful evening and it reminded us of the great weather we had on vacation in Florida a few weeks earlier.

Coming up for Air

My wife Christine and I have been back from our Florida vacation for a week now and I know it is past time for me to start blogging again.

The Affordable Care Act

I thought I would put together some bullet points on the Affordable Care Act since it is going into effect this year. For those that do not have coverage, there will be a penalty assessed on your 2014 federal income tax return.

Tis the Season

It is that time of year again! Time to get your information together to file your 2013 income tax return and to pull all those receipts for deductible expenses out of the shoe box (or put them in the shoebox for your tax professional to have fun with).

Sticking to your Financial Decisions

Like many of you I have resolutions for this new year. One being to blog on a regular basis and, specifically, every other week on Monday.

Change in Seasons

I was sitting on my patio Saturday morning drinking coffee and reading when a slight breeze blew in that wonderful smell of fall.  It was so strong that it broke my concentration on the book and I paused for a while to enjoy it. As I was enjoying the smell and the sound of falling leaves, I realized how much I like the change of the seasons.

Wisdom

As I embark on the decade of my 50’s, I have realized the value of the wisdom I have gained through education and the experiences of life. The wisdom gained from life experiences has come at the highest cost. For example, if it is too good to be true it probably is; start preparing for the future now; the more you put into something the more you will get out of it.
